Article 1. Council Meetings

2-1-100 Regular meetings.

The regular meetings of the City Council shall be held on the third Tuesday of each month unless such day is a holiday, in which case the meeting may be held on such business day as designated by the City Council or the meeting may be cancelled. The time of such meeting shall be established from time to time by the City Council via resolution, and the place shall be City Hall or such other public facility within the corporate limits of the City deemed by the City Council to be appropriate and convenient for the conducting of such meetings. Any regular meeting may be cancelled by the City Council upon announcement of such cancellation at the regular meeting preceding the meeting to be cancelled.

2-1-105 Town meetings.

Town meetings may be held on call of the City Council. A town meeting is for free exchange of information on issues of community-wide importance, but there shall be no discussion of an issue then pending before the City Council or Planning Commission. No action may be taken at town meetings.

2-1-110 Audio recordings.

(A) Audio and video tape recordings made of open and public meetings of the City Council or other legislative bodies, whether by the City Clerk or by any other employee or official directed by the legislative body, shall be retained by the custodian of records for the City as a public record for a minimum period of thirty (30) days from the date of recording. Such tape recordings may be erased or destroyed after the expiration of the thirty (30) day period.

(B) All audio and video tape recordings made of such meetings shall be made available for inspection by the public in accordance with the provisions of the California Public Records Act (Government Code Section 6250 et seq.) for the required thirty (30) day period and continuing until erased or destroyed.

(C) Minutes of the meetings of the City Council and other legislative bodies shall reflect a concise and accurate record of the proceedings.

Article 2. Elections

2-1-200 General municipal election.

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 36503.5 of the Government Code of the State of California, the City of San Juan Bautista’s general municipal election shall be held on the same day as the statewide general election, as set forth in Section 2550 of the Elections Code of the State of California, the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November in each even-numbered year.

2-1-205 Choosing Mayor and Mayor Pro Tempore.

At the regular meeting in December of each year the City Council shall choose one of its members to serve as Mayor and one of its members to serve as Mayor Pro Tempore, each to serve until successors are chosen at the regular meeting in the following December.
