ANIMAL BITING

6.12.010 Animal bites to be reported.

The owner of every animal that bites a person shall be immediately reported to the department or animal control authority. Thereupon such animal shall be securely quarantined at the discretion of the animal control authority for a period of ten days. At the discretion of the animal control authority, such quarantine may be on the premises of the owner, at the animal shelter, or, at the owner’s option and expense, in a veterinary hospital. In cases of animals whose ownership is not known, such quarantine shall be at the animal shelter. (Ord. 1105 § 2 (part), 2004)

6.12.020 Rabies vaccination required.

No person shall harbor any adult dog or cat unless such animal has been effectively vaccinated against rabies and has a current rabies vaccination certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian. The vaccination certificate shall be signed by a licensed veterinarian and shall indicate the expiration date of the vaccination and the type of vaccination used. (Ord. 1105 § 2 (part), 2004)

6.12.030 Rabies control.

It is unlawful for any person knowing or suspecting that an animal has rabies to allow such animal to be taken anywhere off his premises or beyond the city limits, except the animal shelter or licensed veterinarian, without the written permission of the animal control authority. Every owner or other person knowing or suspecting that an animal is rabid shall immediately notify the department or animal control authority. (Ord. 1105 § 2 (part), 2004)

6.12.040 Penalty.

Any person violating any of the provisions of this section is guilty of a misdemeanor subject to the provisions contained in Section 1.32.010(B), General penalties. (Ord. 1105 § 2 (part), 2004)
