10.12.020 Vehicles transporting hazardous materials
(a) A person shall give the Kodiak fire department and the Kodiak police department at least four hours’ notice before transporting an explosive or other hazardous material on a highway or vehicular way or area. No person may transport an explosive or other hazardous material on a highway or vehicular way or area without first obtaining permission to do so from the Kodiak fire department and without using such safety devices and complying with such restrictions as the fire chief may require to protect the public health, safety, and welfare.
(b) In this section, “explosive or hazardous material” means dynamite, nitroglycerine, or similar high explosive normally used for commercial blasting, radioactive material, chlorine gas, or ammonia in containers weighing more than 150 pounds, but does not include ammonia or chlorine gas in containers weighing not more than 2,000 pounds that are transported by a certificated common carrier.
