7.20.010 Appointment of election judges and clerks.

(a) For each municipal election, the city council shall appoint from among qualified electors an election board comprised of three judges for each polling place. One judge for each polling place shall be designated as an inspector, and one judge on the election board shall be designated as chairperson.

(b) For each municipal election, the city council shall appoint two qualified electors to act as clerks of the election.

(c) If any judge or clerk appointed by the city council shall fail or refuse to serve or attend at the time and place determined by the city clerk, the election officers present at the time and place determined by the city clerk shall choose a qualified elector to serve in the place of the absentee.

(d) The city clerk may appoint not more than three additional election clerks if such appointments are necessary to facilitate the orderly conduct of the election or to relieve the appointed clerks of undue hardship. The city clerk may reduce the number of election clerks for a runoff election if the city clerk determines that the full number of appointments are not necessary to facilitate the orderly conduct of the runoff election. 7.20.020 Oath for election officers.

(a) All appointed election officers shall appear at the time and place determined by the city clerk to take an oath administered by the city clerk as follows:

I, _______________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will honestly and faithfully perform the duties of Judge (or Clerk) of election according to law, that I will assiduously endeavor to prevent fraud, deceit or abuse in connection with the election, to the best of my ability, so help me God.

(b) It shall be the duty of the city clerk to file with the records of the city the oaths of election officers. (Ord. O-93-6-6 § 1 (part), 1994)

7.20.030 Compensation.

The compensation of the members of the election board and clerks shall be determined by resolution of the Nome common council at each election. (Ord. O-02-5-2 § 2, 2002: Ord. O-93-6-6 § 1 (part), 1994)
