DEFINITIONS

2.48.010 Definitions.
As used in this division, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated in this chapter:
“Anniversary date” means one year from the date of employment.
“Appeal” means a request to a supervisor, department head, or City Mayor for consideration of and decision or ruling on a problem or situation.
“Appointing authority” means the City Mayor or his designee.
“Calendar year” means the twelve-month period beginning on January 1st and ending on December 31st.
“Child” means the employee’s biological, adopted, or foster child, stepchild, or legal ward.
“City” means the City of North Pole.
“Central personnel file” means a file maintained in the office of the appointing authority which contains complete personnel records of all employees.
“Continuous service” means uninterrupted employment with the City. Absences due to military service or extended leaves approved by the City Mayor do not constitute a break in continuous employment.
“Demotion” means a transfer of an employee from one position to another position which has a lower salary range.
“Department” means a major functional unit of the City government established by the City Council.
“Department head” means a person directly responsible to the Mayor for the administration of a department.
