2.25.010 Office created.

There is created, pursuant to the provisions of Government Code Section 27640, the office of county counsel for Alpine County to be filled by appointment of the board of supervisors for a term of four years and to exercise those powers and duties set forth in this chapter. 2.25.020 Qualifications.

The county counsel shall be chosen on the basis of legal and executive ability, education, experience and knowledge. The county counsel shall at the time of appointment and during his or her term remain licensed to practice law in the state of California as well as a member in good standing of the state bar of California. The board of supervisors, in the exercise of its discretion, may appoint the district attorney to the office of county counsel for a term that runs concurrently with the district attorney’s term of office. 2.25.030 Salary and benefits.

The salary of county counsel shall be fixed by the board of supervisors from time to time by board of supervisors resolution. (Ord. 585 § 2 (part), 1996)

2.25.040 Duties.

The county counsel shall discharge all duties as set out in Government Code Sections 27642, 27645, 27647, 26520, 26520.5, 26523, 26524, 26525, 26526, 26528, 26528.5, 26529 and such further duties allowed by statute, as set forth in an agreement between county counsel and the county. He/she shall perform other related duties as assigned by the board. (Ord. 585 § 2 (part), 1996)

2.25.050 Limit of authority.

No provision of the ordinance codified in this chapter is intended to vest in the county counsel any duty, or grant him/her any authority, which is vested by general law in any other county officer or employee. (Ord. 585 § 2 (part), 1996)

2.25.060 Employment of assistants.

The county counsel may employ assistants and assign them the duties prescribed in the chapter. The employment of assistants must be previously authorized by the board of supervisors by resolution. (Ord. 585 § 2 (part), 1996)
