2.24.010 Establishment of fire department.

There is established a fire department for the city. The department consists of a chief, paid firefighters, such companies of volunteer firefighters and clerical personnel as the city council from time to time determines. The city council shall fix and pay the compensation of the chief and other paid personnel. (Ord. 88-2 N.S. § 1, 1988).

2.24.020 Establishment of a fire and life safety division – Duties of fire and life safety personnel.

The Uniform Fire Code adopted by the city shall be enforced by the fire and life safety division, which is established in the fire department, and which shall be operated under the supervision of the chief of the fire department and in accordance with the rules and regulations of the fire department. In the absence of the chief of the department, the fire marshal shall serve as the authority having jurisdiction on matters relative to fire and life safety. (Ord. 88-2 N.S. § 1, 1988).

2.24.030 Office of fire chief.

There is created the office of fire chief before the city. The city manager shall appoint the fire chief and exercise necessary supervision over the general operation of the fire department. The fire chief has charge of the enforcement of state laws, this municipal code and other ordinances and regulations of the city pertaining to fire prevention or fire protection. The fire chief is charged with the responsibility of establishing goals for each program to provide an element of service that contributes toward a safe working and living environment in the most effective and efficient manner possible. (Ord. 88-2 N.S. § 1, 1988).

2.24.040 Mission statement.

The primary mission of the fire department is to provide a range of programs designed to protect the lives and property of the inhabitants of the city from the adverse effects of fire, sudden medical emergencies or exposure to dangerous conditions created by either man or nature. (Ord. 88-2 N.S. § 1, 1988).
