EXEMPTIONS.
7-3.1 Operation of Vehicles by Police Officers.
While in the performance of police duties, it shall be lawful for the police of the City to park or to operate any automobile or other vehicle in any way, manner or direction deemed by the police officer in charge thereof to be reasonably necessary or expedient in the performances of police duties, notwithstanding the provisions of this chapter and other ordinances of the City regulating parking and traffic on the streets of the City. 7-3.2 Authorized Emergency and Other Public Vehicles.
a. The provisions of this chapter regulating the operation, parking and standing of vehicles shall not apply to any vehicle of the Police or Fire Department, any public ambulance or any public utility vehicle or any private ambulance, which utility service vehicle or private ambulance has qualified as an authorized emergency vehicle and when any vehicle mentioned in this subsection is operated in the manner specified in the Vehicle Code in response to an emergency call. However, these exemptions shall not protect the driver of any such vehicle from the consequences of his willful disregard of the safety of others.
b. The provisions of this chapter regulating the parking or standing of vehicles shall not apply to any vehicle of a City department or public utility while necessarily in use for construction or repair work or any vehicle owned by the United States while in use for the collection, transportation or delivery of United States mail.
