ANIMAL CONTROL
4.17.002 County Ordinance Adopted.
As provided for in Government Code Sections 50022.1 – 50022.2, the Contra Costa County Animal Control Ordinance, Division 416 of the Contra Costa County Code, is adopted by reference in its entirety, including all amendments effective as of May 1, 2018, and Food and Agriculture Code Section 30501 is hereby implemented.

4.17.004 Enforcement.
The provisions of this chapter shall be enforced by the Contra Costa Animal Services Department pursuant to the City-County Animal Services Agreement entered into between the County of Contra Costa and City of Oakley effective July 1, 2006.

4.17.006 Penalties.
Violation of this chapter shall be subject to the penalties of the County ordinance, set forth as follows:
a. Pursuant to Food and Agriculture Code Section 31401, violations of Division 416 of the Contra Costa County Code, excepting Chapter 416-10 (rabies control) and Article 416-12.2 (nuisances), are punishable by a fine of not more than $50 for the first offense, and not more than $100 for the second or subsequent offense.
b. Notwithstanding subsection (a), violation of Section 416-4.404 (abandonment of animal) of the Contra Costa County Code, excluding abandonment under Section 416-8.014 (refusal of owner to apply and pay all applicable license, permit and impoundment fees) of the Contra Costa County Code, is a misdemeanor and punishable as such.
