ASSEMBLIES, PARADES AND PUBLIC EVENTS
Article 1 RODEOS
4.25.102 Rodeo Defined.
As used in this section, "rodeo" means a public event or competition involving the skills of cowboys or cowgirls, including but not limited to such events as bareback riding, saddle bronco riding, bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, steer roping, and barrel racing.
4.25.104 Prohibited Rodeo Activities.
a. No person shall intentionally trip or fell any equine animal, including but not limited to any horse, mare, pony, ass, donkey, burro, mule, or hinny, by the legs by any means whatsoever for the purpose of entertainment, sport, or practice, including a rodeo. No person shall intentionally promote, conduct, hold, or supply livestock for any entertainment, sport, or practice, including a rodeo, in which any person intentionally trips or fells any equine animal by the legs by any means whatsoever.
b. No person shall intentionally trip, drag, or fell any bovine animal, including but not limited to any steer, calf, bull, ox, heifer, or cow, by the tail by any means whatsoever for the purpose of entertainment, sport, or practice, including a rodeo. No person shall intentionally promote, conduct, hold, or supply livestock for any entertainment, sport, or practice, including a rodeo, in which any person intentionally trips or fells any bovine animal by the tail by any means whatsoever.
4.25.106 Rodeo Veterinarian.
a. Any person promoting, conducting, or holding a rodeo shall have a veterinarian in attendance, meaning physically present, throughout the duration of every event using animals, except for "youth" or "high school" rodeos in which the participants are minors.
b. The veterinarian in attendance shall be licensed by the State of California and shall be experienced in the treatment of the types of animals used in the animal events.
c. The veterinarian in attendance shall not be a contestant or otherwise participate in any animal events.
4.25.108 Violation.
Any violation of any provision of this section is a misdemeanor or infraction.
