10.28.010 Bicycle parking zones.

When the city traffic engineer determines that the establishment of a bicycle parking zone is reasonably necessary or desirable for the regulation of traffic or to provide facilities for the temporary parking of bicycles being operated upon the public streets, or to safeguard life or property, he is authorized to set aside a space on the street not more than 36 feet in length for the parking of bicycles during such hours of such days as are found by him to be best suited for the accomplishment of the purposes set forth in this section. When a bicycle parking zone is so established, the city traffic engineer shall cause appropriate signs to be posted thereat during such hours, giving notice that parking of other vehicles is prohibited. No person shall stop, stand or park any other vehicle in front of such zone while such signs are in place. [1937 Code § 522.]

10.28.020 Bus zones.

A. The city traffic engineer is authorized to establish bus zones opposite curb space for the loading and unloading of buses or common carriers of passengers and to determine the location thereof subject to the directives and limitations set forth herein.

B. “Bus,” as used in this section, means any motor bus, motor coach, trackless trolley coach or passenger stage used as a common carrier of passengers.

C. No bus zone shall exceed 80 feet in length, except that when satisfactory evidence has been presented to the city traffic engineer showing the necessity therefor, the city traffic engineer may extend bus zones not to exceed a total length of 125 feet.

D. Bus zones shall normally be established on the far side of an intersection.

E. The city traffic engineer shall paint a red line stencil with white letters “BUS ZONE” upon the top or side of all curbs and places specified as a bus zone.

F. No person shall stop, stand or park any vehicle except a bus in a bus zone.

G. No bus shall stand in any bus zone longer than necessary to load or unload passengers. [1937 Code § 522.1.]

10.28.030 Taxicab stands.

A. The city traffic engineer is authorized to establish taxicab stands alongside curbs or edges of streets or highways for the parking, stopping or standing of taxicabs, or loading and unloading of taxicab passengers, subject to the provisions and limitations of this title and ordinances of the city.

B. The curb surface or edge of street or highway within each taxicab stand shall be painted white and marked “TAXICAB STAND” in red lettering, or shall be designated by signs of a type and size approved by the city traffic engineer.

C. It is unlawful for the driver of any vehicle other than a taxicab to park, stop or stand the vehicle in such taxicab stand. [1937 Code § 522.2.]
