AUTO SALVAGE AND STORAGE FACILITIES

5-11-010 License required.
It is unlawful to operate an auto salvage and/or auto storage facility in the city of Harvey without a license. (Ord. 3102 (part), 2002)
5-11-020 Application.
Every individual, corporation, member or members of a co-partnership or firm desiring to operate an auto salvage and storage facility or presently operating an auto salvage and storage facility in the city of Harvey shall make application to the city clerk on an application form supplied by the clerk.
The application shall include the operator’s name and the name of any parties or co-owners, a street or road address of the premises on which said person or persons intend to carry on said operation.
A separate application or license shall be required for each auto salvage and storage facility that the person(s) may operate if the auto salvage and storage facilities are in different non-adjacent or non-connected locations.
The proprietor shall be required to renew the license annually.
The city reserves the right to deny issuance or renewal of any license under this chapter, to revoke or suspend any license granted under this chapter for failure to comply with one or more provisions of this chapter but not limited to these items. (Ord. 3102 (part), 2002)
5-11-030 Fees.
The fee for operating an auto salvage and storage facility shall be as laid out in Chapter 3-01, Fees, Fines, Insurance and Guarantee Requirements. (Ord. 3494 § 2(B), 2024; Ord. 3316 § 2 (part), 2015: Ord. 3102 (part), 2002)
5-11-040 Definitions.
Auto salvage yard and/or auto recycling facility means any establishment or premises where worn out or discarded automotive materials, whether purchased, donated or abandoned, or where two or more unlicensed motor vehicles which are wrecked, dismantled, partially dismantled, inoperative, abandoned or discarded are kept or stored for the purpose of sale or otherwise. 5-11-050 Location.
An auto salvage and storage facility shall be located only in a light manufacturing (LM) district. (Ord. 3102 (part), 2002)
5-11-060 Rules and regulations.
A. All auto salvage and storage facilities must have a tight board or chain link fence with slats at least seven feet high and one hundred (100) feet back from the centerline of the road which shall completely enclose the view of said auto salvage and storage facility from any public street or highway. All material shall be stored inside of said fence at a height so that the material is not visible from any public road or street. This fence shall be painted and kept in good repair at all times.
B. All requirements of the Illinois Secretary of State and other regulatory agencies shall be met.
C. All federal, state, county, local, rules, laws and regulations concerning operations must be followed. (Ord. 3102 (part), 2002)
