5-16-010 License required—Applications.

A.    It is unlawful to conduct a barber shop without having first secured a license therefor as is herein required.

B.    In order to secure a license to operate a barber shop it shall be necessary for the applicant to present to the clerk, his certificate from the Department of Registration and Education of the State of Illinois, showing that the applicant is a registered barber and licensed to practice barbering by the state of Illinois.

C.    It is unlawful for any registered apprentice barber to secure a license to operate a barber shop in the city.

D.    An apprentice barber, registered by the Department of Registration and Education of the State of Illinois, may make application for a barbers license to practice barbering in the city in a barber shop already in existence. (Prior code § 5-22-1)

5-16-020 Fee.

The annual fee for the licensing of a barber shop shall be two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00). (Ord. 3316 § 2 (part), 2015: Ord. 3221 § 7, 2009; Ord. 2770 § 1 (part), 1992: prior code § 5-22-2)

5-16-030 Regulations.

Premises used for a barber shop shall be kept in a clean and sanitary condition and the employees of such barber shops must keep themselves clean, both as to person and clothing. Utensils and tools must be sterilized before being used on any patron. It is unlawful to keep as an employee in any such shop any person afflicted with a contagious disease of any kind. 5-16-040 Inspections.

The health officer shall make or cause to be made such inspections as may be necessary to insure compliance with the provisions of this chapter. (Prior code § 5-22-4)

5-16-050 Violation—Penalty.

Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this chapter shall be fined not less than two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00) nor more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) for each offense and each day during or on which a violation occurs or continues shall constitute a separate and distinct offense.
