2.04.010 Election and term of office.

The village president shall be elected for a term of four years, and he shall be the president of the board of trustees as is provided by statute.

2.04.020 Duties.

The village president shall be the chief executive officer of the village, and he shall perform all duties that may be required of him by statute or ordinance. He shall have supervision over all executive officers of the village and he shall have the power and the authority to inspect all books and records kept by any village officer or employee at any reasonable time.

2.04.030 Designation of duties.

Whenever there is a question as to the respective duties or powers of any appointed officer of the village, this shall be settled by the president. He shall have the power to delegate to any such officer any duty which is to be performed when no specific officer has been directed to perform that duty.

2.04.040 Bond – Oath – Compensation.

Before entering upon the duties of his/her office, the president shall give a bond, with sureties to be approved by the board of trustees, conditioned upon the faithful performance of his/her duties. He/She shall take the oath of office prescribed by statute. The village president is expected to commit at least twenty-five hours per week to the duties of the office. The salary of the village president is hereby set at sixty-nine thousand nine hundred dollars per year and shall be the sole salary for all duties of the village president including compensation as local liquor control commissioner, and shall be payable in regular monthly installments. In addition, the village president shall be furnished by the village with an automobile for his/her use. The village president shall not be eligible for any other fringe benefits except IMRF if so elected as well as health and dental insurance. On May 1, 2010, and on each succeeding May 1st thereafter, the compensation to be paid to the village president shall increase by two percent over that paid in the prior year. 2.04.060 Title of office – Mayor defined.

A. “Village president,” as used in any ordinance, resolution, motion or other action of the corporate authorities, shall be construed as meaning the mayor; and “mayor,” wherever so used, shall be construed to mean the village president.

B. “Mayor,” as used in the minutes of the meetings of the corporate authorities or any other official document, shall be construed as meaning “village president.”

2.04.070 Deputy mayor.

2.04.080 Ex official member.

The village president shall be an ex official member of all boards and commissions of the village and shall serve as a nonvoting member, unless prohibited by law or unless otherwise specified in an ordinance governing a particular board or commission. (Ord. 2015-38 § 3, 2015)
