2.44.010 Appointment – Term.

There is created the office of animal control and welfare officer (poundmaster). The animal control and welfare officer (poundmaster) shall be appointed by the president, with the advice of the board of trustees, for a period of time not exceeding the term of the president, and shall serve until his successor is appointed and duly qualified.

2.44.020 Duties generally.

The animal control and welfare officer (poundmaster) shall be a special police officer for the purpose of enforcing the provisions of this chapter, and shall perform his duties under the supervision of the chief of police. He is authorized to make all necessary arrests in carrying out the provisions of this chapter. The duties of the animal control and welfare officer (poundmaster) shall be in addition to the enforcement by the police department.

2.44.030 Reports.

The animal control and welfare officer (poundmaster) shall submit monthly reports to the chief of police and the board of trustees, setting forth the number of animals impounded, indicating the breed, sex and color, and the number of animals disposed of or redeemed, the number of arrests made and or warning tickets issued, and the names and addresses of any owner or keeper of animals involved.

2.44.040 Compensation.

The animal control and welfare officer (poundmaster) shall receive such compensation as shall be set by the president and board of trustees.

2.44.050 Enforcement.

It is the duty of the police department, or some other person or firm designated by the president and board of trustees, to enforce the provisions of this chapter and to take up and impound any dog found running at large or not wearing a collar and license tag within the corporate limits of the village as required by this chapter.
