1.108.010 Successor to previous building, fire safety and planning department.
The community development department was formerly named the department of building, fire safety and planning. Any reference in this code to the departments of “building, fire safety and planning” or “planning” shall be a reference to the community development department, except for those provisions concerning fire and life safety services for which the fire prevention and investigation department is responsible pursuant to Chapter 1.110. 1.108.020 Organization and staffing.
The department shall be headed by a director responsible to the board of county commissioners. The department shall have three divisions: the building division, the planning division and the code enforcement division. Additional personnel staffing and organization shall be as necessary to properly administer federal, state and/or local requirements. (Res. 2017-83 (Exh. A (part)), 9/25/17: Res. 80-88 § 2, 7/8/80).
1.108.030 Authority.
(1) The director will assume full responsibility for the operation of all divisions and report directly to the board of county commissioners.
(2) The department, through its director and/or his/her designees, shall administer and enforce building, zoning, land use and development regulations, including but not limited to: Titles 3, 11, 12, 14 and 16; and the Chelan County Shoreline Master Program.
(3) The department, through its director and/or his/her designees, shall be the lead agency for comprehensive planning and development consistent with federal, state and local requirements.
(4) The director is authorized to promulgate such rules, policies and/or procedures as may be deemed necessary to administer and enforce this chapter. (Res. 2017-83 (Exh. A (part)), 9/25/17: Res. 80-88 (part), 7/8/80).
