8.32.010 Closure of county roads authorized.
The board of Chelan County commissioners may, by resolution, upon making a finding that extreme hazardous conditions exist or upon a finding that other public safety concerns exist that demand closure, order the closure of any or all county roads or portions thereof to travel by the general public. 8.32.020 Closure by posting.
Closure shall be by posting upon the affected roadway with appropriate signs at the point or points of closure, indicating the road is closed to public access. (Res. 92-97 (part), 6/22/92: Res. 89-40 (part), 4/18/89).
8.32.025 Closure for public safety hazard—List of closed roads.
The county engineer, county sheriff, and/or other designated county officials will be instructed to post notice of closure on any road as may be deemed critical, and upon such posting shall become effective immediately and remain so until ordered otherwise by the board. A list of “Closed Roads” shall be kept in the county engineer’s office, and copies of the list shall be available in the board of county commissioner’s office and the county sheriff’s office. 8.32.030 Penalty for violations—Exemptions.
Anyone traveling upon a county road, except those enumerated herein, that has been closed and posted, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and punished by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars and/or sentenced to the Chelan County jail for not more than ninety days, or both, provided, however, that bona fide residents who must use such roads for ingress or egress from their residences; those who own property or leaseholds that can only be reached by such roads and who must perform necessary work to protect their property or business; or employees on authorized and official business shall be exempt from the provisions of this chapter.
