12.08.010 Uniform system established.
There is established a uniform system of numbering all houses, stores and other buildings, except sheds and outhouses, erected or to be erected within the limits of the city. (Prior code § 8.16.010).
12.08.020 How number determined.
A. The initial point for numbering buildings in the city shall be the point of intersection of Main Street and First Avenue in the city. The baseline for numbering buildings on lots fronting upon streets running east and west shall be Main Street in the city and the baseline for numbering buildings on lots fronting upon streets running north and south shall be First Avenue in the city. All buildings on streets running east and west, west of Main Street, shall be numbered from Main Street westward, commencing with the number 100 at the Main Street baseline. All buildings on streets running east and west in the tier of blocks immediately west of Main Street shall be numbered consecutively from 100 upward to a number less than 200, all numbers on the south side of such streets being odd numbers and all numbers on the north side of such streets being even numbers, such numbers alternating back and forth across such streets. All buildings on streets running east and west in the second tier of blocks west of Main Street shall be numbered consecutively from 200 upward to a number less than 300, and shall be otherwise numbered in the same manner as in the tier of blocks immediately west of Main Street as aforesaid. All buildings on streets running east and west in the third tier of blocks west of Main Street shall be numbered consecutively from 300 upward to a number less than 400, and shall be otherwise numbered in the same manner as in the tiers of blocks previously mentioned. Such system of numbering shall continue westward to the city limits, or as far as streets are laid out in the city, each succeeding tier of blocks westward bearing numbers greater by 100 than those in the tier of blocks immediately east, but otherwise being numbered in the same manner.
B. All buildings on streets running east and west, east of Main Street, shall be numbered from Main Street eastward, commencing with the number 100 at the Main Street baseline. All buildings on streets running east and west in the tier of blocks immediately east of Main Street shall be numbered consecutively from 100 upwards to a number less than 200, all numbers on the north side of such streets being odd numbers and all numbers on the south side of such streets being even numbers, such numbers alternating back and forth across such streets. All buildings on streets running east and west in the second tier of blocks east of Main Street shall be numbered consecutively from 200 upwards to a number less than 300, and shall be otherwise numbered in the same manner as in the tier of blocks immediately east of Main Street as aforesaid. All buildings on streets running east and west in the third tier of blocks east of Main Street shall be numbered consecutively from 300 upward to a number less than 400, and shall be otherwise numbered in the same manner as in the tiers of blocks previously mentioned. Such system of numbering shall continue eastward to the city limits, or as far as streets are laid out in the city, each succeeding tier of blocks eastward bearing numbers greater by 100 than those in the tier of blocks lying immediately west, but otherwise being numbered in the same manner.
C. All buildings on streets running north and south, north of First Avenue, shall be numbered from First Avenue northward, commencing with the number 100 at the First Avenue baseline. All buildings on streets running north and south in the tier of blocks immediately north of Main Street shall be numbered consecutively from 100 upward to a number less than 200, all numbers on the west side of such streets being odd numbers and all numbers on the east side of such streets being even numbers, such numbers alternating back and forth across such streets. All buildings on streets running north and south in the second tier of blocks north of First Avenue be numbered consecutively from 200 upward to a number less than 300, and shall be otherwise numbered in the same manner as the tier of blocks immediately north of First Avenue as aforesaid. All buildings on streets running north and south in the third tier of blocks north of First Avenue shall be numbered consecutively from 300 upward to a number less than 400, and shall be otherwise numbered in the same manner as in the tiers of blocks previously mentioned. Such system of numbering shall continue northward to the city limits, or as far as streets are laid out in the city, each succeeding tier of blocks northward bearing numbers greater by 100 than those in the tier of blocks immediately south, but otherwise being numbered in the same manner.
D. All buildings on streets running north and south, south of First Avenue, shall be numbered from First Avenue southward, commencing with the number 100 at the First Avenue baseline. All buildings on streets running north and south in the tier of blocks immediately south of First Avenue shall be numbered from 100 upwards to a number less than 200, all numbers on the east side of such streets being odd numbers and all numbers on the west side of such streets being even numbers, such numbers alternating back and forth across such streets. All buildings on streets running north and south in the second tier of blocks south of First Avenue shall be numbered consecutively from 200 upward to a number less than 300, and shall be otherwise numbered in the same manner as in the tier of blocks immediately south of First Avenue as aforesaid. All buildings on streets running north and south in the third tier of blocks south of First Avenue shall be numbered consecutively from 300 upward to a number less than 400, and shall be otherwise numbered in the same manner as in the tiers of blocks previously mentioned. Such system of numbering shall continue southward to the city limits, or as far as streets are laid out in the city, each succeeding tier of blocks southward bearing a number greater by 100 than those in the tier of blocks immediately north, but otherwise being numbered in the same manner. 12.08.030 Designation of west, east, north and south.
A. All numbers of buildings on streets running east and west, west of Main Street, shall be succeeded by the word “West.”
B. All numbers of buildings on streets running east and west, east of Main Street, shall be succeeded by the word “East.”
C. All numbers of buildings on streets running north and south, north of First Avenue, shall be succeeded by the word “North.”
D. All numbers of buildings on streets running north and south, south of First Avenue, shall be succeeded by the word “South.” (Prior code § 8.16.030).
12.08.040 Each seven and one-half feet of frontage given separate number.
Each seven and one-half feet frontage upon any street shall be given a separate distinct number. (Prior code § 8.16.040).
12.08.050 Location and size of building numbers.
All numbers shall be placed directly over and above the entrance to the buildings in a conspicuous place, and shall be painted thereon or on metal or glass or a metallic figure used and fastened thereon at the option of the owner, each figure to be not less than three inches in length. 12.08.060 Buildings to be numbered before being occupied.
All houses or buildings now erected shall be numbered as provided in this chapter on or before the first day of July, 1911, and all houses or buildings hereafter erected shall be numbered before being occupied. (Prior code § 8.16.060).
12.08.070 Numbers to be placed on city buildings.
The committee on streets and public property is authorized to cause the proper numbers to be placed upon the City Hall and other buildings belonging to the city. (Prior code § 8.16.080).
12.08.080 Failure to comply with chapter – Penalty.
The owner of any house or building required by this chapter to be numbered who fails, refuses or neglects to comply with the provisions of this chapter shall, upon conviction, be subject to a fine of not less than $5.00 nor more than $10.00. (Prior code § 8.16.070).
