10.24.010 Definitions.
(1) Use of Words and Phrases. As used in this chapter, unless the context or subject matter clearly requires otherwise, the words or phrases defined in this section shall have the indicated meanings.
(2) “Bikeway” means all routes that are specifically designated for bicycle travel and has the same breadth of meaning as the expression “bike path.”
(3) “Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices” means the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways, U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, 1988 Edition, as presently constituted or as may be subsequently amended. [Ord. 1105 § 1, 1994.]
10.24.020 Bikeway designation standards.
Bikeways are designated and marked to conform to the requirements of WAC 479‑16-091 as presently constituted or as may be subsequently amended with stenciled word or symbol messages placed on the surface of all bikeways at regular intervals. [Ord. 1105 § 2, 1994.]
10.24.030 Signs prohibiting parking in bikeways.
Signs prohibiting parking in bikeways shall conform to the requirements set forth in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. [Ord. 1105 § 3, 1994.]
10.24.040 Use of bikeways for other purposes prohibited.
(1) No person shall lead, drive, ride, or propel a team, wagon, animal, or vehicle other than a bicycle or similar vehicle upon and along a bikeway, except at suitable crossings to be provided in the construction of such paths.
(2) A violation of or failure to comply with this section is a misdemeanor. [Ord. 1105 § 4, 1994.]
10.24.050 Stopping, standing, or parking in a bikeway prohibited.
(1) No person shall stop, stand, or park a vehicle in a bikeway.
(2) A violation of or failure to comply with this section is a class 6 civil infraction. [Ord. 1105 § 5, 1994.]
10.24.060 Removal of vehicle by a police officer.
(1) A police officer may take custody of a vehicle and provide for its prompt removal to a place of safety whenever a police officer finds a vehicle unattended upon a bikeway and the vehicle constitutes an obstruction to traffic or jeopardizes public safety.
(2) For the purposes of this section, a place of safety may include the business location of a registered tow truck operator. [Ord. 1105 § 6, 1994.]
