The traffic school operated by the city of Des Moines police department is hereby formally established, authorized, and approved in accordance with the terms and conditions of RCW 46.83.050. Any actions of the Des Moines police department consistent with the authority and prior to the effective date of the ordinance codified in this chapter are hereby ratified and affirmed. 10.32.020 Purpose.
The purpose of the traffic school is to instruct, educate, and inform all persons appearing for training in the proper, lawful, and safe operation of motor vehicles, including but not limited to rules of the road and the limitations of persons, vehicles, and bicycles and roads, streets, and highways under varying conditions and circumstances. 10.32.030 Judge may order attendance.
The Des Moines municipal court judge may, as part of any traffic deferral agreement, order any person to attend the traffic school as a condition of the deferral. [Ord. 1363 § 3, 2005.]
10.32.040 Fee.
The city of Des Moines police department shall charge a fee to traffic school participants to recover some or all of the costs of administering the traffic school. The amount of the fee shall be established by administrative order of the city manager based upon the recommendation of the city of Des Moines police chief, whose recommendation shall be based upon the actual costs of administration of the traffic school.
