TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMITTEE

2.24.010 Appointment—Composition.
A. There is appointed by the chairman of the board of county commissioners a county traffic safety committee to serve without compensation, consisting of:
1. A county commissioner;
2. The county sheriff;
3. The county engineer;
4. The county traffic safety coordinator;
5. A representative from the county fire districts;
6. The county prosecutor;
7. The traffic court judge;
8. A representative from the driver training faculty from each school district;
9. Appropriate representatives of other major political subdivisions in the county and municipalities within the county having comparable road or street safety responsibilities;
10. Representation by other non-official bodies as may be determined appropriate by the chairman of the board of county commissioners.
B. The chairman of the committee shall be a county commissioner selected by the board at its pleasure. (Res. 77-68 § A)
2.24.020 Meetings.
A. The committee shall develop a meeting schedule that includes a minimum of four meetings per year.
B. The committee shall appoint a secretary to keep a record of attendance, minutes, and all official proceedings. (Res. 77-68 § B)
2.24.030 Duties.
Responsibilities and duties of the traffic safety committee are:
A. To secure voluntary coordination and reinforcement of road and street safety activities conducted by the political subdivisions of the county in the functional areas of:
1. Driver education,
2. Codes and laws,
3. Traffic courts,
4. Alcohol in relation to road and street safety,
5. Identification and surveillance of accident locations,
6. Traffic records,
7. Emergency medical services,
8. Road and street design, construction and maintenance,
9. Traffic-control devices,
10. Pedestrian safety,
11. Police traffic services,
12. Debris hazard control and cleanup,
13. School bus safety;
B. To review and develop a written statement of road or street safety needs in the aforementioned functional areas and develop immediate priorities and long-range goals for road and street safety improvements;
C. To advise the board of county commissioners, municipal councils and their various committees on road or street safety matters;
D. To maintain liaison with road or street safety programs carried on by the municipalities of the county and related state functions conducted in the county;
E. To act as an advisory body to the county safety coordinator for the purpose of developing local actions necessary to implementing projects under the Federal Highway Safety Act of 1966;
F. To cooperate with nonofficial organizations and groups in developing and conducting public information programs directed to road and street improvements;
G. To develop procedures for periodic review of local road and street safety improvement programs. (Res. 77-68 § C)
2.24.040 Study groups and subcommittees.
The committee may establish special study groups and/or subcommittees as necessary to meeting its responsibilities as outlined in this chapter. (Res. 77-68 § D)
