16.07.010 Conformance to uniform codes required.
All permanent signs and sign structures shall be designed and constructed in accordance with the requirements of the uniform codes. (Ord. 1488-03 § 1, 2003).
16.07.020 Building permit.
When a freestanding sign requires a footing, the applicant shall make separate application to the building department for a building permit. Approval of the building permit and payment of the fees associated with that permit are required prior to sign permit issuance. (Ord. 1488-03 § 1, 2003).
16.07.030 Electrical permits.
All electrically illuminated signs require an electrical permit from Tacoma City Light or other electric provider in addition to permits required by the city of Fife. Such permits must be submitted to the city prior to a sign permit being issued. (Ord. 1488-03 § 1, 2003).
16.07.040 Utilities underground.
All utilities, including electrical service, shall be located underground. (Ord. 1488-03 § 1, 2003).
16.07.050 Utility location.
Before beginning any excavation for a ground mount or pole sign, the excavator shall provide notice of the scheduled excavation to all owners of underground facilities as required by the current edition of the Revised Code of Washington, as amended. (Ord. 1488-03 § 1, 2003).
16.07.060 Sign maintenance required.
All signs, together with their supports, braces, guys and anchors, shall be kept in good repair. The surfaces of all signs shall be kept neatly painted at all times. The ground area and sign landscaping shall be maintained in a neat and orderly manner. (Ord. 1488-03 § 1, 2003).
16.07.070 Appearance of exposed surfaces.
The exposed surfaces of all signs and sign supports shall present a neat and finished appearance. (Ord. 1488-03 § 1, 2003).
16.07.080 Maintenance enforcement.
The city engineer may order the removal or maintenance of any sign that is not maintained in a safe and orderly condition. The order for removal or maintenance of any sign shall be sent by the city engineer to the person to whom the sign permit was granted or to the property owner. The notice shall be sent by certified mail, return receipt requested. If the action requested in the order is not taken within the specified time period, the city engineer may direct the sign to be removed from the premises. The holder of the sign permit or the property owner shall be charged an amount equal to the city’s cost for removal of the sign.
