3.96.010 Rewards authorized.

Subject to the provisions of this chapter, the city may pay up to $500.00 to any person or persons for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a person or persons committing a criminal offense in the city. The amount and for what crime or crimes a reward is to be paid shall be determined by the police chief with the approval of the city administrator. “Conviction” for the purposes of this chapter shall include a deferred sentence or a diversion program entered into by the defendant as a result of the information supplied by the person claiming the reward. 3.96.020 Limitation on the number of rewards.

No more than one reward up to $500.00 may be paid arising out of an incident regardless of the number of persons providing information, persons committing the offenses, or acts causing injury or destruction or property injured or destroyed. (Ord. 1767 § 2, 2006).

3.96.030 Rewards not payable to employees.

No reward shall be paid to any employee, spouse of any employee, or child residing with any employee of the city or any law enforcement authority. (Ord. 1767 § 2, 2006).

3.96.040 Rewards not payable to participants.

No person who has participated with, aided or encouraged another to commit an act which is the crime for which the reward is offered shall be entitled to such reward. (Ord. 1767 § 2, 2006).

3.96.050 Claiming rewards.

Claims for rewards shall be presented to the police chief who is authorized to accept, reject, or refer said claims to the city administrator for consideration. However, no claim shall be considered nor reward paid until after the conviction (as defined in GMC 3.96.010) of the person or persons who committed the criminal offense, and no claim shall be considered nor reward paid unless it is presented to the police chief no later than 30 calendar days after conviction of the person or persons who committed the criminal offense for which the reward is offered. 3.96.060 Multiple claimants.

When more than one claimant applies for the payment of any reward, the police chief shall determine to whom the same shall be paid, and if to more than one person, in what proportion to each; and its determination shall be final and conclusive. (Ord. 1767 § 2, 2006).

3.96.070 Payment of claims.

Whenever a person or persons providing the information shall be entitled to a reward offered by this chapter, the reward may be paid out of any money in the city treasury not otherwise appropriated subject to approval of the city administrator. (Ord. 1767 § 2, 2006).

3.96.080 Notice of offer of rewards.

The police chief with approval of the city administrator is hereby authorized to direct the posting or publication of notice of rewards as may be appropriate in his or her discretion. (Ord. 1767 § 2, 2006).

3.96.090 Effective date.

No reward shall be paid for information which was received by the city of Grandview or any law enforcement authority on or before November 12, 2006. (Ord. 1767 § 2, 2006).

3.96.100 Severability.

In the event any section or portion of this chapter is found to be ineffective by a court of competent jurisdiction, said finding shall not affect the remainder of this chapter which shall remain in full force and effect. (Ord. 1767 § 2, 2006).
