6.12.010 Scope.
This chapter shall apply to the harboring of livestock and small animals or fowl in the city; provided, that this chapter shall not apply to animal services facilities, kennels, veterinary offices, clinics, and hospitals, nor shall it apply to any facility possessing or maintaining livestock and/or small animals or fowl which is owned, operated, or maintained by any city, county, state, or the federal government, including but not limited to public zoos, nor shall it apply to museums, laboratories and research facilities maintained by scientific or educational institutions, nor shall it apply to private or commercial activities such as circuses, fairs, or private zoological parks which are otherwise regulated by law. 6.12.020 Compliance required.
It shall be unlawful for any person to harbor livestock and small animals or fowl within the city except as provided in this chapter. (Ord. 2007-660 § 1)
6.12.030 Harboring livestock.
A. Minimum Lot Size for Harboring Livestock. The minimum lot size for harboring livestock in the city shall be one acre.
B. Number of Livestock Permitted. The number of livestock permitted shall be one animal per one acre of area.
C. Fence/Shelter. Livestock shall be harbored within a legal fence and have access to adequate shelter.
D. Minimum Distance from Nearest Residence. All livestock, except swine, shall be harbored not less than 100 feet from the nearest residence. Swine shall be harbored not less than 200 feet from the nearest residence. (Ord. 2007-660 § 1)
6.12.040 Harboring geese, ducks, turkeys, pigeons, peafowl and guinea fowl.
A. Minimum Lot Size for Harboring Geese, Ducks, Turkeys, Pigeons, Peafowl and Guinea Fowl. The minimum lot size for harboring geese, ducks, turkeys, pigeons, peafowl and guinea fowl in the city shall be one acre.
B. Number of Geese, Ducks, Turkeys, Pigeons, Peafowl and Guinea Fowl Permitted. The number of geese, ducks, turkeys, pigeons, peafowl and guinea fowl permitted shall be three geese, three ducks, three turkeys, three pigeons, three peafowl or three guinea fowl or any combination of geese, ducks, turkeys, peafowl and guinea fowl and pigeons not exceeding three in number for each one acre of property. 6.12.050 Harboring rabbits and hens.
A. Minimum Lot Size for Harboring Rabbits and Hens. The minimum lot size for harboring rabbits and hens in the city shall be 7,200 square feet.
B. Number of Rabbits and Hens Permitted. The number of rabbits and hens permitted shall be six hens or six rabbits or any combination of hens and rabbits not exceeding six in number for each 7,200 square feet of property. (Ord. 2007-660 § 1)
6.12.060 Harboring chinchillas, guinea pigs, hamsters, parakeets.
The maximum number of chinchillas, guinea pigs, hamsters, and/or parakeets shall not exceed a total of six such animals for each single-family lot. (Ord. 2007-660 § 1)
6.12.070 Livestock and small animal or fowl shelter.
No more than one animal shelter building for the housing of livestock or small animals or fowl shall be permitted on one lot. (Ord. 2007-660 § 1)
6.12.080 Roosters prohibited.
It shall be unlawful for any person to harbor a rooster in the city. (Ord. 2007-660 § 1)
6.12.090 Nuisances prohibited.
It shall be unlawful for any person to harbor livestock or small animals or fowl in a manner that constitutes a nuisance as determined by the animal control authority. (Ord. 2007-660 § 1)
