10.08.010 State speed laws applicable.
The state traffic laws regulating the speed of vehicles shall be applicable upon all streets within this city, except as this chapter, as authorized by state law, declares; and furthermore, it is determined upon the basis of engineering and traffic investigation that such speed regulations shall be applicable upon specified streets or in certain areas, in which event it shall be unlawful for any person to drive a vehicle at a speed in excess of any speed so declared in this chapter when signs are in place giving notice thereof.
10.08.020 Increasing speed limit in certain zones.
It is determined upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation that the speed permitted by state law upon the following streets is less than is necessary for safe operation of vehicles thereon by reason of the designation and sign-posting of the streets as arterial highways and by reason of widely spaced intersections and it is declared that the speed limit on those streets or parts of streets designated in this section at the times specified when signs are erected giving notice thereof shall be as designated in Table 10-1.

10.08.030 Decrease of state law maximum speed.
It is determined upon the basis of engineering and traffic investigation that the speed permitted by state law outside of business and residence districts as applicable upon the streets listed in Table 10-2 is greater than is reasonable or safe under the conditions found to exist upon the streets and it is declared that the speed limit shall be the miles per hour on those streets or parts of streets as designated in Table 10-2 at the times herein specified when signs are erected giving notice thereof, provided on state highway limits shall not be less than 20 miles per hour as required by RCW 46.61.415(1).

The public works supervisor is hereby directed to post signs along the streets affected by this chapter notifying the driving public of the speed limit for each street as revised and established by this chapter. (Ord. 2006-637 § 2)
10.08.040 Penalties.
A violation of this chapter shall be a traffic infraction pursuant to Chapter 46.63 RCW and is punishable by a fine only not to exceed $250.00.
10.08.050 Posting of signs.
The city engineer is hereby directed to post signs along the streets affected by this chapter notifying the driving public of the speed limit for each street as established by this chapter.
10.08.060 Effective upon approval by the Secretary of Transportation.
The provisions of this chapter altering the maximum speed limits permitted by state law on State Route 527 shall be effective upon approval by the Secretary of Transportation for the State of Washington pursuant to RCW 46.61.415(5).
