12.16.010 Connection when public sewer unavailable.

Where a public sanitary sewer is not available under the provisions of NPMC 12.08.040, the side sewer shall be connected to a private sewage disposal system complying with the requirements of Chapter 14.24 NPMC. (Ord. 168 § 4(A), 1965).

12.16.020 Connection with public sewer.

At such time as a public sewer becomes available to a property theretofore served by a private sewage disposal system (as allowed by NPMC 12.08.040) by location within 200 feet to the nearest property line, a direct connection shall be made to the public sewer in compliance with the provisions of this title, and thereafter any septic tanks, cesspools and similar private sewage disposal facilities shall be abandoned and filled with a suitable material, except where existing improvements are too low to be served by gravity to such available sewer, in which case septic tank operations may continue until city-approved pumping facilities are installed by the property owner to pump the sewage into the available sanitary sewer system. Thereafter, on notice given as provided in NPMC 12.08.040, the property shall be connected with the public sewer and the user shall maintain said pump. (Ord. 275 § 2, 1974; Ord. 168 § 4(B), 1965).

No private sewage disposal system or drain field associated with such a system shall be closer than 100 feet from the high-tide line of any body of saltwater. (Ord. 373 § 2, 1980; Ord. 269 § 3, 1973).
