POLICE DEPARTMENT

2.36.010 Established.
There is created and established a department of police to be operated under the direction and control of a chief of police. (Ord. 871 § 1, 2009: Ord. 11 § 1, 1970)
2.36.020 Chief.
The position of chief of police is excluded from the classified civil service. (Ord. 935 § 1, 2014: Ord. 871 § 1, 2009: Ord. 483 § 1, 1989: Ord. 11 § 2, 1970)
2.36.030 Chief—Oath.
The chief of police, so appointed, shall qualify before entering upon his or her duties by filing an oath to support the government of the United States of America, the state and the city and to the faithful performance of his or her duties. (Ord. 1047, 2019: Ord. 11 § 3, 1970)
2.36.040 Powers and duties—Compensation.
The chief of police and his deputies shall have all of the powers granted, together with the duties imposed by laws of the state relating to chiefs of police of cities of the class to which Ocean Shores now or hereafter may belong, and, in addition thereto, he shall have the power to enforce the ordinances of the city and to perform such other services as the laws of the state or the ordinances of the city may now or hereafter require, and shall receive for the performance of his duties such compensation as shall be fixed by ordinance. 2.36.050 Appointment of deputies.
The chief of police may appoint such deputies as may be appropriate and necessary for the proper performance of the duties of his office and for which provision is made in the annual budgets adopted by the city council. (Ord. 871 § 1, 2009: Ord. 11 § 5, 1970)
2.36.060 Employees’ status.
The present employees of the Ocean Shores police force shall become the employees of the city, subject to review by the chief of police and the city manager. (Ord. 11 § 6, 1970)
