10.20.010 State speed laws applicable.

State traffic laws regulating the speed of vehicles shall be applicable upon all streets within this city, except as this chapter, as authorized by state law, declares and determines upon the basis of engineering and traffic investigation that certain speed regulations shall be applicable upon specified streets or in certain areas, in which event it is unlawful for any person to drive a vehicle at a speed in excess of any speed so declared in this chapter when signs are in place giving notice thereof. 10.20.020 Decrease of state speed limit on highways.

It is determined upon the basis of engineering and traffic investigation that the speed permitted by state law on the following state highways within the city limits is greater than is reasonable under the conditions found to exist on such highways and it is declared that a reasonable and safe speed limit is:

A. West city limits to one thousand feet west of 1st Street, fifty miles per hour;

B. One thousand feet west of 1st Street to 3rd Street, thirty-five miles per hour;

C. Third Street to 11th Street, twenty-five miles per hour;

D. Eleventh Street to 26rd Street (Mile Post 404.74), thirty-five miles per hour;

E. Twenty-sixth Street to east city limits, fifty-five miles per hour. (Ord. 801 §1, 2004; Ord. 583 §1, 1976; Ord. 514 §21, 1967).

10.20.030 Speed limits on specified streets.

It is determined upon the basis of sound engineering and traffic investigation that the safe and reasonable speed limit on the following named streets shall be as follows:

A. 6th from Arlington Avenue, south to city limits, thirty-five miles per hour;

B. Arlington Avenue from 15th to 18th, twenty miles per hour;

C. 18th from Arlington Avenue to SSR No. 12, twenty miles per hour;

D. Speed limits in school zones, twenty miles per hour;

E. SSR No. 128, Arlington Avenue south to city limits, thirty-five miles per hour.

On all other streets in the city, the speed limit shall be twenty-five miles per hour. (Ord. 582 §1, 1976; Ord. 514 §22, 1967).

10.20.040 Speed regulation by traffic signals.

The chief of police is authorized to regulate the time of traffic signals as to permit the movement of traffic in an orderly and safe manner. (Ord. 514 §23, 1967).
