6.09.010 Killing of animals prohibited.

It is unlawful for any person to intentionally kill or attempt to kill any animal within the city limits of the city, except as otherwise permitted in this chapter. (Ord. 1831 § 1 (part), 1995).

6.09.020 Exceptions.

The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to the following persons:

A.    Licensed veterinarians when euthanizing animals in accordance with the laws of the state of Washington;

B.    Animal control officers appointed by the city when euthanizing animals within the scope of their employment;

C.    Any person when necessary to protect himself or others from immediate grievous bodily injury;

D.    Law enforcement officers in the performance of their duties;

E.    Those persons licensed by the state of Washington as butchers as slaughterers when such killing is done in accordance with the applicable laws of the state of Washington and the ordinances of the city;

F.    The humane killing of livestock when the same is done as part of a religious ritual; and

G.    The killing of snakes, mice, rats and other such vermin when such is done for the safety or health of such person. (Ord. 1831 § 1 (part), 1995).

6.09.030 Penalty.

Any violation of this chapter shall be a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by imprisonment for a period of time not to exceed ninety days or a fine in an amount not to exceed one thousand dollars or both such imprisonment and fine. (Ord. 1831 § 1 (part), 1995).
