20C.30.55 Fences.
20C.30.55-010 Purpose.
The purpose of the fence regulations is to provide for fences that protect or enhance property and life and which are compatible with residential neighborhoods while protecting the public from hazardous fences or fences that may blight residential neighborhoods. (Ord. 1901)
20C.30.55-020 Height.
The maximum height of fences shall be six feet anywhere on the lot, provided that the requirements of RCDG 20D.210.25, Sight Clearance at Intersections, are met. (Ord. 1901)
20C.30.55-030 Prohibited Areas.
Fences are prohibited in sensitive area buffers, native growth protection easements, designated greenbelts and designated open space. (Ord. 1901)
20C.30.55-040 Electric Fences.
(1) Allowed. Electric fences are permitted in Agriculture, RA-5 and R-1 zones. Electric fences may be used in conjunction with large domestic animals where allowed in R-2 through R-30 zones.
(2) Postings. Electric fences shall be posted with permanent signs every 50 feet stating that the fence is electrified.
(3) Certification. All electric fences and appliances, equipment, and materials used in connection therewith shall be listed or labeled by a qualified testing agency and shall be installed in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and in compliance with the National Electrical Code.
(4) Setbacks and Secondary Fencing. Except in the Urban Recreation zone, electric fences shall be set back at least two feet from property lines adjacent to public rights-of-way, residential zones of densities greater than R-1, and a second and more substantial fence, with a mesh size small enough to prevent a child from reaching through, shall be located along the property line. 20C.30.55-050 Barbed Wire Fences.
Barbed wire fences are permitted in Agriculture, RA-5, and R-1 zones, but not along property lines adjacent to other residential and commercial zones. (Ord. 1901)
20C.30.55-060 Swimming Pool Fences.
Fences, a minimum of five feet in height, are required around outdoor swimming pools. (Ord. 1901)
