SAN JUAN COUNTY SAFETY COMMITTEE

2.132.010 Established.
A San Juan County safety committee is established pursuant to WAC 296-800-13020. (Ord. 1-2023 § 1)
2.132.020 Safety officer.
The director of human resources and risk management shall serve as the safety officer and ensure that the safety committee is assembled in compliance with state law. The director of human resources and risk management shall determine the number of committee members and assign work to be conducted by the committee consistent with state laws and regulations, including but not limited to review of the county safety manual. The director of human resources and risk management may select and appoint employer-selected members to the committee. (Ord. 1-2023 § 2)
2.132.030 Management representative liaison.
The director of human resources and risk management shall appoint a management representative liaison to work with the committee to hear the committee’s concerns and develop a plan to address safety concerns. The management representative liaison may be appointed as a member of the committee. (Ord. 1-2023 § 3)
2.132.040 Safety coordinator.
The director of human resources and risk management may appoint a safety coordinator to provide administrative support; conduct annual elections for employee-elected committee members; assist the committee in setting meetings, securing locations, and documenting attendance; provide accident reports to the committee; and ensure committee meeting minutes are drafted and posted. The safety coordinator may be appointed as a member of the committee. (Ord. 1-2023 § 4)
2.132.050 Safety orientation.
Each department head shall ensure that its employees receive a safety orientation consistent with WAC 296-800-14005. (Ord. 1-2023 § 5)
2.132.060 Employee participation in safety meetings.
Employee participation in safety meetings shall be on paid time. (Ord. 1-2023 § 6)
