12.24.010 Removal of vegetation required.

All persons owning property within the city limits of the city of Shelton are required to destroy and remove all trees, plants or shrubs, which overhang on any sidewalk or street in the city of Shelton and to destroy and remove grass, weeds and brush growing on any property within the city, which become a fire hazard or nuisance. (Prior code § 12.08.010)

12.24.020 Determining hazard—Authority to abate.

The fire chief of the city of Shelton shall determine when said grass, weeds and brush growing on any property constitutes such a fire hazard or nuisance, and if same is not so destroyed and removed within three days after notice by the fire chief is given to the property owner to do so, the city is authorized and empowered to perform the work necessary to so destroy and remove said grass, weeds and brush and to create a lien against the property from which same is destroyed and removed for the expense thereof. 12.24.030 Penalty for violation.

Any person violating this chapter, in addition to having a lien charge against his property, shall be fined in any sum not exceeding one hundred dollars and costs, and/or by imprisonment in the city jail for not more than thirty days. (Prior code § 12.08.030)
