CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION—SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

2.24.010 Purpose.
It is the purpose of this Chapter to fully provide for carrying into effect the laws of the State of Washington relating to Civil Service for Sheriff’s Departments.

2.24.020 Civil Service Commission—Created for Sheriff’s Department.
There is hereby created a Civil Service Commission for the Sheriff’s Department of Skagit County, which Commission shall be composed of three (3) persons appointed by the Board of Commissioners. (Res. 2623, 1959; 29 CJ 168)
2.24.030 Compensation, appointment, powers of Commissioners.
The members of the Commission shall serve without compensation and no person shall be appointed a member of the Commission who is not a citizen of the United States, a resident of Skagit County, Washington, for at least two (2) years immediately preceding his appointment, and an elector of said County. The duties, powers, salaries, expenses, immunities and procedures of said Commission are as set forth in R.C.W. 41.14, and as the same may be amended from time to time.
The terms of office of each Commissioner shall be six (6) years, except that the first three (3) members of the Commission shall be appointed for different terms, as follows:
(1) One to serve for a period of two (2) years.
(2) One to serve for a period of four (4) years.
(3) One to serve for a period of six (6) years. (Res. 2623, 1959; 29 CJ 168)
2.24.040 Coverage of Civil Service system.
The classified Civil Service shall apply to and include all full paid employees of the Sheriff’s Department, Skagit County, Washington, except those specifically excluded by R.C.W. 41.14. (Res. 2623, 1959; 29 CJ 168)
2.24.050 Duties—Effective date.
Immediately after appointment, the Commission shall organize, as provided by law, and shall then proceed to make suitable rules and regulations, and perform the duties imposed by law. (Res. 2623, 1959; 29 CJ 168).
