2.18.010 Tonasket tree board.*

A. Purpose. The city council finds that trees have substantial positive benefits, such as improving the environmental, economic, social, and aesthetic well-being of the community, and therefore proposes to establish a tree board for the purpose of advising the city with regard to planting, maintenance, and removal of trees in the public rights-of-way and on city-owned property, including such trees as may affect said property.

B. Tree Board Established. There is hereby established a Tonasket tree board whose members shall be appointed by the mayor and shall be made up of at least three members. The council parks committee or designated representatives of said committee and the city superintendent shall serve as members of the tree board and the board may consist of any number of interested citizens including representatives of the Tonasket garden club, the city planning commission, the business community, the Tonasket school district, electrical utilities, neighborhoods, and any other interested persons.

C. Powers and Duties. The Tonasket tree board shall have the following powers and duties:

1. To develop a written plan and make recommendations for the care, preservation, planting, removal, enhancement, and disposition of trees and shrubs in parks, public rights-of-way, and other public property.

2. To develop information and procedures to encourage preservation, protection, and enhancement of existing trees and shrubs on public property as well as additional planting of trees and shrubs on public property; and to provide public information to the citizens of Tonasket to encourage proper management and enhancement of trees on private property within the city.

3. To make comments and recommendations regarding plans and/or development proposals which affect trees or which may include the planting of trees and shrubs on city property, including city rights-of-way and parks. The tree board shall provide recommendations and comments to municipal authorities responsible for making final decisions regarding the adoption and/or implementation of such plans and/or proposals.

4. To perform such other tasks as may from time to time be directed by the mayor and/or city council. (Ord. 629 § 1, 2005).
