2.09.010 Street light plans.

A full set of street light plans shall be submitted to the city of Wenatchee code enforcement department showing the complete lighting system to be installed. (Ord. 3085 § 2, 1994)

2.09.020 Permits.

An electrical permit shall be required after approval of the submitted plans. The city of Wenatchee electrical inspector shall make a cover inspection of the wiring of any street light or street lights system before any portion is backfilled. No electrical permit shall be issued without approved plans. (Ord. 3085 § 2, 1994)

2.09.030 Wiring sweeps.

All sweeps installed in the footing for street lighting to be rigid metal two inches in size. An entrance and exit conduit shall be installed in each base, whether used or not. (Ord. 3085 § 2, 1994)

2.09.040 Underground wiring.

All underground wiring shall be encased in two-inch Schedule 80 or 40 and be buried a minimum 24 inches below grade. Conduit runs shall be installed under the sidewalk. No splices will be allowed, unless approved by the lighting department. (Ord. 3085 § 2, 1994)

2.09.050 Street lighting conductors.

Where street lighting conductors pass under a street, rigid metal conduit shall be installed. Rigid metal conduit must also be used under a commercial or residential driveway if installed depth is less than 24 inches. Bond metal raceways in street light pole to service or circuit grounding system. (Ord. 3085 § 2, 1994)

2.09.060 Developments.

For developments or installations consisting of two or more street light installations, the following shall be required unless otherwise approved by the city of Wenatchee street lighting department:

(1) A meter base located on the pole five to seven feet from ground level. Seven feet required if meter overhangs sidewalk.

(2) A single lighting contactor, properly sized for the amount of lights installed.

(3) A service disconnect with proper amount of branch circuits for the amount of lighting installed, which will withstand the available fault current.

(4) The service disconnect, lighting contactor, and branch circuits shall be located a minimum of 10 feet above ground level.

(5) A test switch included in the lighting contactor box.

(6) An equipment grounding conductor shall be pulled in the conduit with branch circuit conductors and attached to an accessible ground lug in the base of each pole that is installed and bonded to the interior of each pole. This equipment grounding conductor shall be bonded to the service disconnect enclosure, and the grounding electrode conductor and grounding electrode (rod) for the system, which is located near the street light service panel. A neutral conductor shall be installed per NEC 25-23b for services.

(7) Minimum service entrance conductor and distribution conductor size shall be #4 copper – XHHW or THWN.

(8) Street lights shall be spaced at 150 feet or as determined by an engineering study. (Ord. 3085 § 2, 1994)

2.09.070 Single pole installations.

For a single service pole installation, #8 copper XHHW or THWN will be acceptable. (Ord. 3085 § 2, 1994)

2.09.080 Conductors.

All conductors going up the pole must be wet location rated, copper conductors type THWN, XHHW, or equivalent with approval prior to installation. (Ord. 3085 § 2, 1994)

2.09.090 Grounding, single service poles.

Grounding for single service poles shall be done in this manner: A ground lug shall be installed in the interior portion of the light pole and this lug shall be connected to one ground rod installed in the base of the light pole by a #4 copper wire. A neutral conductor shall be installed per NEC 250-23b. (Ord. 3085 § 2, 1994)

2.09.100 Specifications for fixtures.

Fixtures shall be GE Cobra Head High Pressure Sodium 200 watt, 240 volt fixture #M4AR20S3-A1GMN31F or M4RC20S3AlGMC3F. “Fish bowl” or “flat” lens are acceptable. (Ord. 3085 § 2, 1994)

2.09.110 Specified poles.

All poles shall be aluminum HAPCO #41-158, Davit style or match style of existing area poles. (Ord. 3085 § 2, 1994)

2.09.120 Current limiting fuses.

Current limiting fuses shall be installed to effectively limit the fault current to any pole that is a service. For poles that are on a branch circuit, fuses shall be #KTK-5 Bussman or equivalent. (Ord. 3085 § 2, 1994)

2.09.130 Fuse boot disconnects.

All fuse boot disconnects for each pole shall be Bussman #HEB-JW-RYC (two each pole). (Ord. 3085 § 2, 1994)

2.09.140 Electrical permit fees.

Electrical permit fees are $20.00 for one service pole with an additional $10.00 per pole for all poles that derive their power from that same service. The city of Wenatchee inspects bases prior to concrete pours and luminaries for proper electrical installation and mounting. (Ord. 3085 § 2, 1994)

2.09.150 Electrical inspection.

A final electrical inspection of the project is required before acceptance by the city. (Ord. 3085 § 2, 1994)
