2.07.010 Office created.

There is hereby created the office of finance director, which office shall be filled by appointment of the mayor and/or city administrator, subject to confirmation by a majority of the city council; said director shall serve at the pleasure of the mayor and/or city administrator. 2.07.020 Duties – Bond.

In addition to those duties prescribed by law for the finance director it shall be their duty to keep an appropriate account in a suitable book under appropriate heads of all expenditures and all orders drawn of the treasurer and all warrants issued in pursuance thereof; they shall also issue all licenses and keep in an appropriate book an account of all licenses issued with the names of the persons to whom issued, the date of their issuance, the time for which the same were granted and the sum paid therefor, and perform such other duties as they may be required to perform by the ordinances of the city of Westport. Before entering upon the duties of their office they shall execute and deliver to the city a good and sufficient bond in the sum of $50,000. (Ord. 1698 § 2, 2024)

2.07.030 Salary.

The salary of the finance director shall be in a sum to be fixed by the city council from time to time. (Ord. 1698 § 2, 2024)

2.07.040 Finance director to keep moneys – Records.

It shall be the duty of the finance director to receive and safely keep all moneys belonging to the city of Westport from whatever source derived; to place the same to the credit of the different funds to which they properly belong in a book kept for that purpose; to distribute said money by the direction of the city council and in accordance with the provisions made by them under the provisions of this chapter or any other provisions of the city; and to make quarterly reports to the council of the condition of the treasury. They shall keep a set of books for the city in which shall be set forth in a plain and business-like manner every moneyed transaction of the city so that they can at any time tell the exact condition of the city’s finances. They shall also issue a call for outstanding warrants of any fund upon which warrants have been previously drawn, whenever there may be funds in the treasury to pay any or all of such warrants; provided, that nothing herein shall be construed as authorizing or permitting the payment of warrants by the treasurer in any other form or manner than in the order of their number of issue against the fund. Such calls shall be made by publication in the official newspaper of the city for the period of one week and interest upon any such warrants shall cease on date of such call. Before entering upon the duties of this office they shall execute and deliver to the city a bond in the penal sum of $50,000. (Ord. 1698 § 2, 2024)
