(1) Permits Required. The City Electrical Inspector shall issue permits in accordance with SPS 316.012. In no case shall any electrical work be done unless the permit has been obtained.

(a) Any work done in or on a building or structure that disturbs the service of meter or meter socket will require a permit and an inspection. Such work shall be performed only by a licensed electrical contractor. This includes the installation of the main service panel.

(b) Any electrical work done on an above or below ground swimming pool will require a permit and an inspection. Such work shall be performed only by a licensed electrical contractor.

(c) Expiration. Permits shall expire if the work authorized is not commenced within six calendar months from the date of such permit or 12 months from the start date of issue, unless otherwise specified. Before such work can be recommenced, an additional, subsequent permit shall be obtained and the fee therefor shall be one-half the amount of the original permit fee, but not less than the minimum permit fee. A detailed timeline shall be completed for completion of the project prior to issuing the subsequent permit. Failure to meet the timelines for completion shall make the subsequent permit void.

(2) Electrical Permit Fees. The schedule of electrical permit fees, which must be paid at the time an electrical permit is issued, shall be as provided in the Electrical Permit Fee Schedule, which is on file with the City Clerk and Building Inspection Departments and viewable upon request.

(3) Delinquent Permits. In the event an electrical permit is not taken out prior to commencing work on the job, the applicable fee will be double the rate specified in the Electrical Permit Fee Schedule.

(4) Electrical Plumbing Appliances. On any electrical appliance requiring plumbing, either the plumbing contractor or the electrical contractor, but not both, shall take out the permit. Both contractors shall be listed on the permit. If the owner chooses to select individual contractors, separate permits shall be required for electric and plumbing.
