7.05.010 General and special municipal elections.

(a) There shall be held an annual general election in the city on the first Tuesday of each October.

(b) Special municipal elections may be ordered by resolution of the city council. The conduct of any special municipal election shall be in accordance with the ordinances and rules governing general elections, except as otherwise provided by ordinance. (Ord. O-93-6-6 § 1 (part), 1994)

7.05.020 Notice of elections.

(a) Notice of the annual general election shall be published by the city clerk in a local newspaper of general circulation at least once each week during four consecutive weeks preceding the annual general election. The first notice shall be published at least thirty days and not exceeding forty-five days prior to the date of the general election.

(b) Notice of a special election shall be published by the city clerk in a local newspaper of general circulation at least once each week during three consecutive weeks preceding the special election. The first notice shall be published at least twenty days and not exceeding forty-five days prior to the date of the special election.

(c) Notices of election prescribed by subsections (a) and (b) of this section shall include:

(1) The date of the election;

(2) The time of opening and closing the polling places;

(3) The locations of the polling places;

(4) The title of each office;

(5) A brief summary of each proposition; and

(6) A statement that the names of all candidates for office and the full texts of all propositions are available for inspection and copying at the office of the city clerk. (Ord. O-93-6-6 § 1 (part), 1994)

7.05.030 Polling places.

The polling place shall be located at Old Saint Joe’s Hall unless the city clerk determines prior to the first notice to be published in accordance with NCO Section 7.05.020 that a different location is more suitable or convenient to the voters. 7.05.040 Hours.

On the day of any election, each polling place shall open for voting at eight a.m., shall close for voting at eight p.m., and shall remain open during the entire time between these hours. (Ord. O-93-6-6 § 1 (part), 1994)
