6.24.010 Restrictions on Keeping Fowl

A.    A resident of a single-family detached residence on a lot that is one-half (1/2) acre or less in size may keep up to a maximum of six (6) fowl in the backyard of the property; provided, that the following conditions are met:

1.    All fowl shall be kept in an enclosure located in the rear or side yard of the property at least twenty (20) feet from a neighboring property. The size of the enclosure shall be a maximum of two hundred (200) square feet with a maximum height of eight (8) feet; provided, that any enclosure on a lot less than one (1) acre in size to be shorter than the fence line of the property. The enclosure shall be maintained and manure picked up and disposed of or composted at least twice weekly.

2.    Any composted manure shall be kept in a way that prevents migration of insects.

3.    All water sources for fowls shall have adequate overflow drainage.

4.    All feed for fowls shall be stored in insect-proof and rodent-proof containers.

5.    All fowl are prohibited from running at large.

6.    For the purposes of this section, "fowl" means a cock or hen of the domestic chicken.

B.    Notwithstanding anything in this section, the City prohibits the keeping of male fowl, including roosters, unless pursuant to Section 17.60.190, which limits male fowl to the AR district. (Ord. 1418 § 1, 2024)
