3.08.010 Disposition by police – Generally.
Unclaimed property coming into the possession of the police department, either directly or from other city departments, shall be disposed of by the police department from time to time in the manner prescribed in BGMC 3.08.020 and 3.08.030. 3.08.020 Disposition by police – Minimum holding period.
All unclaimed property described in BGMC 3.08.010, except unclaimed bicycles, shall be held by the police department for a period of at least four months. Unclaimed bicycles shall be held for a period of at least three months. (Ord. 325 § 12, 1974; Ord. 294 § 1, 1972; prior code § 2513(1)).
3.08.030 Disposition by police – Sale at public auction – Notice.
At any time after the holding periods described in BGMC 3.08.020, the unclaimed property may be sold at public auction to the highest bidder, after the police department first causes to be published in a newspaper of general circulation published in Los Angeles County, at least once, a minimum of five days before the time fixed for the auction, a notice that the property will be sold at public auction to the highest bidder, and giving the date and place of the auction sale.
