BONDS

2.16.010 Bonds – City Clerk, City Treasurer and Chief of Police.

A. The City Clerk, City Treasurer and Chief of Police of the City shall, before entering upon the duties of their respective offices, each execute a bond to the City. The penal sum of the bond shall be fixed by the Council by resolution after the City Attorney has examined the bond and found that it meets with the requirements of law. If the surety thereon is a corporation duly authorized by the laws of the State to execute such surety bonds, the minimum penal amount of each shall be as follows:

1. City Clerk in the penal amount of $10,000;

2. City Treasurer in the penal amount of $10,000;

3. Chief of Police in the penal amount of $2,000.

B. The City Manager (and any acting City Manager) shall furnish a bond in such sum as may be determined by the Council, which shall be conditioned upon the faithful performance of the duties imposed upon the City Manager (and any acting City Manager) as herein prescribed. Any premium for such bond shall be a proper charge against the City.

C. In the event personal bonds are furnished, the penal amount thereof shall be double the amount set forth in subsection (A) of this section provided for corporate bonds.

D. The Director of Finance, before entering upon the duties of that office, shall execute a bond to the City, which shall be in the same penal amounts as required of the City Clerk by this chapter. (Ord. 448 § 1, 1989; Ord. 405 § 3, 1985).

2.16.020 Bonds – Approved.

The Council shall have the power by resolution to require bonds of any other officer or employee of the City. The Council shall approve all bonds and fix their penal amount by resolution.

2.16.030 Bonds – Filing.

When approved, the City Clerk’s bond shall be filed with the Mayor. Other bonds shall be filed with the City Clerk.
