10.44.010 Established – Authority.
A. Whenever any ordinance or resolution of this city designates or describes any street or portion thereof as a street, the use of which is permitted by any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of three tons, the chief of police is authorized to designate such street or streets by appropriate signs as “TRUCK TRAFFIC ROUTES,” for the movement of vehicles exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of three tons.
B. When any such traffic route or routes are established and designated by appropriate signs, the operator of any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of three tons shall drive on such route or routes and none other except when necessary to traverse another street or streets to a destination for the purpose of loading or unloading, but then only by such deviation from the nearest truck route as is reasonably necessary. The provisions of this section shall not apply to passenger buses under the jurisdiction of the public utilities commission. (Ord. 158 § 1, 1984)
10.44.020 Signposting.
A. Whenever any ordinance or resolution of this city designates or describes any street the use of which is prohibited by any commercial vehicle, the chief of police shall cause to be erected and maintained signs at the entrances of such streets from the principal thoroughfares intersecting the same, giving notice that commercial vehicles are prohibited thereon.
B. When authorized signs are in place giving notice that commercial vehicles are prohibited, no person shall operate a commercial vehicle over any such street; provided, that this prohibition shall not apply to the use of any block of such street by such vehicle if such operation is for the purpose of delivering or loading for transportation of persons or property located in such block. The provisions of this section shall not apply to passenger buses under the jurisdiction of the public utilities commission. (Ord. 158 § 1, 1984)
10.44.030 Restriction – Designated.
No person shall drive, operate or use any commercial motor vehicle having a gross weight of 12,000 pounds or more, on the following streets, or portions of streets: __________. (Ord. 158 § 1, 1984)
10.44.040 Sign erection.
The chief of police of the city is authorized and directed to cause the erection of appropriate signs indicating in a clear and conspicuous manner the weight limit applicable to __________ Street (or portion of __________ Street) designated in EMC 10.44.030. Pursuant to Vehicle Code Section 35701(b), the provisions contained in this section and EMC 10.44.030, 10.44.050 and 10.44.060 shall not be effective until such signs have been erected. 10.44.050 Restriction – Exemption.
Nothing contained in this section and EMC 10.44.030, 10.44.040 and 10.44.060 shall prevent the use or operation of commercial vehicles on __________ Street for the purposes set forth in Section 35703 of the Vehicle Code. (Ord. 158 § 1, 1984)
10.44.060 __________ Street – Violation of restriction.
A violation of EMC 10.44.030 constitutes an infraction. (Ord. 158 § 1, 1984)
