8.12.010 SPEED LIMITS:
A. The basic speed limit in Gonzales is twenty five (25) miles per hour except as otherwise specified in the following sections.
B. Fifteen (15) Miles Per Hour Zones. Fifteen (15) miles per hour is fixed as the maximum speed limit on Rincon Road north and south of Fifth Street, Del Monte Drive, Cielo Vista Avenue, and Elko Street between Fifth and First Streets in front of Fairview and La Gloria Schools.
C. Twenty Five (25) Miles Per Hour Zone. Twenty five (25) miles per hour is fixed as the maximum speed limit on Alta Street from C Street to 750 South Alta.
D. Thirty (30) Miles Per Hour Zone. Thirty (30) miles per hour is fixed as the maximum speed limit on Alta Street from the north city limits near Tenth Street to C Street.
E. Thirty Five (35) Miles Per Hour Zone. Thirty five (35) miles per hour is fixed as the maximum speed limit on Gonzales River Road from Alta to the westerly city limits.
F. Forty Five (45) Miles Per Hour Zone. Forty five (45) miles per hour is fixed as the maximum speed limit on South Alta Street south of 750 South Alta Street past Gloria Road to southbound US 101. (Ord. 2010-61, 2-16-2010; amd. Ord. 2018-110, 10-1-2018)
8.12.020 TURNING:
A. Turning Markers:
1. Whenever the city council by ordinance or resolution determines those intersections at which markers, buttons, or signs within or adjacent thereto shall be placed or maintained to indicate the course to be traveled by vehicles turning at such intersections, the chief of police shall cause such markers, buttons, or signs to be so placed and maintained.
2. When authorized markers, buttons, or signs are placed within or adjacent to an intersection indicating the course to be traveled by vehicles turning thereat, no driver of a vehicle shall disobey the directions of such indications. (1972 Code § 10.24.010)
B. Signs Prohibiting Turns:
1. Whenever the city council by ordinance or resolution determines those intersections at which signs shall be placed and maintained prohibiting the making of left or right turns, or U-turns by operators of vehicles, the chief of police shall cause such signs to be placed and maintained at such locations. The making of the specified turn may be prohibited at all times or at designated periods of time, in which event the same shall be plainly indicated on any such sign so placed and maintained, or such sign may be removed when such turns are permitted.
2. Whenever authorized signs are placed and maintained indicating that no left or right turn or U-turn is permitted, no driver of a vehicle shall disobey the directions of any such sign. (1972 Code § 10.24.020)
8.12.030 DRIVING THROUGH FUNERAL PROCESSION:
No driver of a vehicle shall drive between the vehicles comprising a funeral procession while such procession is in motion and when the vehicles therein are conspicuously designated. This provision shall not apply at intersections where traffic is controlled by official traffic signals or police officers. (1972 Code § 10.28.010)
8.12.040 NEW PAVEMENT:
No person shall ride or drive any animal or any vehicle over or across any newly paved street or freshly painted markings in any street where a barrier or sign is in place warning persons not to drive over or across such pavement or marking, or when a sign is in place stating that the street or any portion thereof is closed. 8.12.050 DRIVING OVER SIDEWALK:
The operator of a vehicle shall not drive same upon any improved sidewalk except at a regularly established driveway. (1972 Code § 10.28.040; amd. Ord. 2010-61, 2-16-2010)
8.12.060 REPAIRING OR LEAVING DISABLED VEHICLES ON STREETS:
A. Public View Defined: For the purposes of this section, a motor vehicle or part thereof shall be deemed to be in public view when it is visible from a public street or way, or from other private property. (1972 Code § 10.48.030; amd. Ord. 2010-61, 2-16-2010)
B. Repair On Streets Or In Public View: The making of major repairs to, or the rebuilding or reconstruction of, a motor vehicle on a street, or in public view on privately owned premises within any district zoned for residential or commercial uses, is declared to be unlawful. As used herein, "major repair" means any work which requires the disassembling of the motor, transmission, body, or other major component of the vehicle; it does not include minor repair or maintenance work, or lubrication. C. Storage In Public View: In any district zoned for residential or commercial uses, it shall be unlawful for any person to keep or maintain in public view, for five (5) or more consecutive days, on premises owned or controlled by such person, a disabled motor vehicle or part thereof. A motor vehicle is disabled, within the meaning of this section, when it is not mechanically or legally capable of being driven on a public street. In the event of a violation of this section, such vehicle or part thereof shall be deemed a public nuisance and may be abated in the same manner as is provided in title 5, chapter 5.24 of this code for the removal of abandoned vehicles on public or private property.
