13.24.010 Water meter permit required – Purpose.
For the purpose of administering within the City the Zone 7 Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation District water connection charges, as established by Ordinance 72-1 of said Zone 7, there is required a water meter permit for each new or enlarged water service established within the City. (Ord. 2065 § 1(A), 2018; 1960 code § 24.60)
13.24.020 Application for permit.
Every applicant for a building permit for construction on or improvement to any property within the City for which a new or enlarged water meter is needed shall apply for a water meter permit. Such application shall show the size of any existing water meter, the size of the water meter needed, and the address or the location of the property to be served. 13.24.030 Issuance of permit – Determination of charges.
A. The City’s building official shall, upon proper application, issue a water meter permit for each new or enlarged service upon collection of the charge established therefor by Zone 7.
B. The building official shall be responsible for the determination of the amount of the Zone 7 charge, according to the terms and conditions of Ordinance 72-1, referred to in LMC 13.24.010, together with any modification or amendment thereof, and may provide for the form of application or permit. The water connection permit may be a part of the building permit. (Ord. 2065 § 1(A), 2018; 1960 code § 24.62)
13.24.040 Water service notification.
The building official shall prepare a water service notification upon the standard form, and forward a copy of such notification, upon issuance of a water meter permit, to the water agency having jurisdiction over the service area in which the connecting property is located. The notification shall state the address of the property to be connected, the size of any existing water meter, and the size of the water meter for which application has been made (1960 code § 24.63)
13.24.050 Error in size of meter – Reapplication.
In the event that an applicant underestimates the size of the water meter needed to service the premises, reapplication may be made to the building official and a new permit shall be issued authorizing the connection of the greater-size meter upon payment of a fee for the additional size (1960 code § 24.65)
13.24.060 Connecting meter without permit and service notification prohibited.
It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to install any new water meter, or to enlarge the size, or to replace an existing meter with a larger meter, unless a permit therefor has been obtained and notification has been received as provided in LMC 13.24.040 from the building official. No meter shall be installed in excess of the size permitted. (1960 code § 24.64)
