SECTION:

§5015:    Traffic Pattern Compulsory; Exceptions

§5016:    Taxiing

§5017:    Takeoffs

§5018:    After Takeoffs

§5019:    Flying Over Airport

§5020:    Entering Traffic Pattern

§5021:    Flying Traffic Pattern

§5022:    After Landing

§5023:    Permits For Variance From Safety Rules

§5015 TRAFFIC PATTERN COMPULSORY; EXCEPTIONS

All aircraft must follow the regulated traffic pattern as designated except aircraft under ground controlled radio and extreme emergencies such as aircraft in distress and air ambulance. (Ord. 530, §1-1(a), adopted 1958)

§5016 TAXIING

No fast taxiing will be permitted except after landing roll on runway. (Ord. 530, §1-2(a), adopted 1958)

§5017 TAKEOFFS

A.    All takeoffs must be made in accordance with setting of tetrahedron.

B.    All takeoffs must be made from end of runway. (Ord. 530, §1-3, adopted 1958; amd. by Ord. No. 640, §1, adopted 1973)

C.    No takeoffs will be permitted from middle of runway in either direction.

D.    No takeoffs shall be commenced at any time when aircraft are about to turn to base leg.

E.    All pre-takeoff aircraft shall clear themselves by facing final approach leg and turning towards incoming traffic. (Ord. 530, §1-3, adopted 1958)

§5018 AFTER TAKEOFFS

A.    All aircraft taking off to the north shall maintain a normal climb to a point directly above the four thousand foot (4,000’) marker appearing on the runway. With a minimum altitude of fifty feet (50’) at such four thousand foot (4,000’) marker, the pilot shall execute a fifteen degree (15o) right turn and thereafter proceed with a normal climb in a straight line at least one thousand feet (1,000’) past the end of the runway.

B.    All aircraft taking off to the south shall maintain a normal climb to a point directly above the one thousand five hundred foot (1,500’) marker appearing on the runway. With a minimum altitude of fifty feet (50’) at such one thousand five hundred foot (1,500’) marker, the pilot shall execute a twenty degree (20o) left turn and thereafter proceed with a normal climb in a straight line at least one thousand five hundred feet (1,500’) past the end of the runway. (Ord. 530, §1-4, adopted 1958; amd. by Ord. 640, §2, adopted 1973)

§5019 FLYING OVER AIRPORT

A minimum altitude of one thousand five hundred feet (1,500’) above the ground must be maintained when flying over airport for observation of runway in use, traffic, obstacles, etc. (Ord. 530, §1-5, adopted 1958)

§5020 ENTERING TRAFFIC PATTERN

A.    All let downs must be made a safe distance away from traffic pattern.

B.    Altitude must be eight hundred feet (800’) above the ground when approaching entry leg.

C.    No diving into traffic pattern. It is very dangerous and will not be tolerated. (Ord. 530, §1-6, adopted 1958)

§5021 FLYING TRAFFIC PATTERN

A.    An entry leg of sufficient time and distance must be flown to show pilots’ intention of entering downwind leg.

B.    Enough distance from runway on downwind leg must be maintained in order to allow two (2) ninety degree (90o) turns before arriving at final approach, and the minimum distance of one thousand feet (1,000’) between aircraft and end of runway must be maintained.

C.    Distances from runway on downwind leg will vary with speeds of various aircraft so that no set ground path can be flown by each aircraft. However, excessive wide extended downwind legs with the resultant wide base and long final become a hazard to flying safety and are to be avoided. (Ord. 530, §1-7, adopted 1958)

§5022 AFTER LANDING

After landing, no one hundred eighty degree (180o) turns shall be permitted on runway. After slowing down to safe taxi speed, aircraft shall pull over to the west side of runway and without hesitation, continue on to next turnoff. (Ord. 530, §1-8, adopted 1958)

§5023 PERMITS FOR VARIANCE FROM SAFETY RULES

Special permits must be obtained in writing from Airport Manager for:

A.    Short field crop duster operations.

B.    Demonstrations of aircraft in the interest of the public.

C.    Air shows or air fairs. (Ord. 530, §1-9, adopted 1958)
