10.20.010 Operation of snowmobiles within the town.

The streets and alleys of the town, excepting Agate Avenue, which avenue is also known as U.S. Highway No. 40, may be used for the operation of snowmobiles as a means of getting snowmobiles out of and into the town. Snowmobiles shall not be operated on the streets and alleys for recreational purposes, or for any other purpose not specifically authorized by this chapter. [Ord. 235 § 1, 1973. Code 1999 § 13-1-1].

10.20.020 Crossing Agate Avenue.

(a) Agate Avenue may be crossed only at the following intersections:

(1) The intersection of Zero Street and Agate Avenue.

(2) The intersection of Fifth Street and Agate Avenue.

(b) When so crossing Agate Avenue, operators shall proceed as follows:

(1) Crossing shall be made at an angle of approximately 90 degrees to the direction of the highway and at a place where no obstruction prevents a quick and safe crossing.

(2) The snowmobile shall be brought to a complete stop before entering upon the roadway of Agate Avenue.

(3) The operator shall yield the right-of-way to all motor vehicle traffic on Agate Avenue, which constitutes an immediate hazard to such crossing. [Ord. 235 § 2, 1973. Code 1999 § 13-1-2].

10.20.030 Operation upon streets and alleys.

Operation of a snowmobile upon the streets and alleys, as herein provided, shall be as follows:

(a) It shall be driven as near as safely possible to the right-hand side of the roadway, and when there shall be more than one such snowmobile, they shall proceed single file in such location.

(b) It shall come to a complete stop at the intersection of every street in the town, whether or not such intersection be marked with a stop sign.

(c) The maximum speed shall be 15 miles per hour.

(d) All turns shall be signaled for.

(e) The right-of-way shall be yielded to all other vehicular traffic.

(f) Headlights and taillights shall be on at all times. [Ord. 235 § 3, 1973. Code 1999 § 13-1-3].

10.20.040 Operation prohibited near school.

Anything in this chapter to the contrary notwithstanding, no snowmobiles shall be operated on the property located within a distance of 200 feet from all school buildings, at any time when such school shall be in regular session. [Code 1999 § 13-1-4].

10.20.050 Required equipment.

In addition to equipment required by the laws of the state of Colorado, each snowmobile operated upon the streets and alleys, as herein provided, shall be equipped with a wand or antenna which shall extend upward a minimum of 84 inches from the traveled surface of said streets and alleys, and there shall be attached to the upper end of such wand or antenna, a reflectorized pennant, containing a minimum of 15 square inches of material, and measuring a minimum of three inches by five inches. 10.20.060 Excessive noise prohibited.

Excessive noise shall not be permitted. No tuned exhausts or racing engines not having a conventional exhaust shall be permitted. [Ord. 235 § 6, 1973. Code 1999 § 13-1-6].

10.20.070 State laws applicable.

Operation of snowmobiles upon the streets and alleys, as herein provided, shall be subject to all applicable provisions of the laws of the state of Colorado. [Ord. 235 § 7, 1973. Code 1999 § 13-1-7].

10.20.080 Penalty.
