2.12.010 Election – Term.

The village clerk shall be elected and serve for a four-year term and until his successor is elected and qualified as is provided by statute.

2.12.020 Bond.

Before entering upon the duties of his office, the village clerk shall execute a bond in such amount and with such sureties as is provided by statute, conditioned upon the faithful performance of his duties of village clerk. The village clerk shall receive as compensation for services as village clerk, per the laws of the state of Illinois, the sum of thirty-six thousand nine hundred dollars annually effective May 1, 1993, until the succeeding April 30, 1994, payable in equal bi-weekly installments throughout the year. On May 1, 1994, and on each succeeding May 1st thereafter, the compensation to be paid to the village clerk shall increase by two percent over that paid in the prior year. 2.12.030 Sealing and attesting of documents.

The clerk shall seal and attest all contracts of the village and all licenses, permits and such documents as shall require this formality.

2.12.040 Minutes – Ordinance book.

The clerk shall keep the minutes of the board of trustees and preserve all ordinances enacted in an ordinance book as provided by statute.

2.12.050 Additional record-keeping duties.

In addition to the record of ordinances and other records which the clerk is required by statute to keep, he shall keep a register of all licenses and permits issued and the payments thereon, a record showing all of the officers and regular employees of the village, and such other records as may be required by the board of trustees.

2.12.060 Custodian of village seal.

The clerk shall be the custodian of the village seal and shall fix its impression on documents whenever this is required. The seal to be used by and for the village shall make the following impression: “RIVERDALE, ILLINOIS, INCORPORATED 1892” around the outer edge of the seal.

2.12.070 Custodian of documents.

The clerk shall be the custodian of all documents belonging to the village which are not assigned to the custody of some other officer.

2.12.080 Index to documents and records.

The clerk shall keep and maintain a proper index to all documents and records kept by him so that ready access thereto may be had.

2.12.090 Additional duties.

In addition to the duties provided in this chapter, the clerk shall perform such other duties and functions which may be required by statute or ordinance.

2.12.100 Vacancy in office.

In case the office of village clerk shall become vacant for any reason, the president and board of trustees shall appoint a successor as is provided by statute.
