TREE COMMISSION

2.62.010 Created – Membership.
There is created for the village, the Riverdale tree commission. The tree commission shall be composed of seven members. (Ord. 2006-28 § 1, 2006; Ord. 2002-16 § 1, 2002)
2.62.020 Appointing authority.
One of the members shall be the director of public works. Two of the members shall be the presidents of the Riverdale and Ivanhoe Park districts, or their designee. The remaining four members shall be residents appointed by the village president with the advice and consent of the village board. (Ord. 2006-28 § 2, 2006; Ord. 2002-16 § 1, 2002)
2.62.030 Residency requirements – Exceptions.
Each member of the Riverdale tree commission shall be a resident of the village of Riverdale, with the exception of the arborist or professional forester. (Ord. 2002-16 § 1, 2002)
2.62.040 Term of appointment.
The two residents to the commission shall serve for a term of three years. The arborist or professional forester shall serve for a term of one year. The initial term for the two residents appointed to the commission shall be a two-year term for one resident and a three-year term for the other resident. After the terms of the residents initially appointed to the commission have terminated, every term thereafter for the residents appointed to this commission shall be for a term of three years. 2.62.050 Chairperson.
The village president shall designate the chairperson of the tree commission. (Ord. 2002-16 § 1, 2002)
2.62.060 Purpose.
The purpose of the tree commission shall be to design and implement the village tree program. The commission will mobilize community resources and encourage the participation of residents in the village tree program. They will also be responsible for conducting community-wide educational efforts to publicize the benefits of trees. The commission shall also be responsible for organizing, conducting and preparing a tree inventory for planning annual Arbor Day events and to provide for the Tree City U.S.A. yearly application.
