FIRE LIMITS

15.16.010 Boundaries established.
The fire limits of the village are established as follows:
Beginning at the centerline of 139th Street, north to the village boundary line, from the centerline of Indiana Avenue, west to the centerline of Halsted Street;
From the centerline of the alley between Edbrooke Avenue and Michigan Avenue, east to Indiana Avenue from 146th Street to 139th Street;
From the centerline of 145th Street, north to the centerline of 143rd Street, from the centerline of the alley between Michigan Avenue and Edbrooke Avenue, west to the centerline of Tracy Avenue;
From the centerline of 145th Street north to the centerline of 139th Street;
From the centerline of Tracy Avenue, west to the centerline of the alley between Emerald Avenue and Union Avenue;
From the centerline of Halsted Street to the centerline of the alley between Emerald Avenue and Union Avenue, from the centerline of 146th Street, north to the centerline of 139th Street.
15.16.020 Exterior coverings.
It is unlawful to construct or erect any building or structure or dormer or portion thereof or addition thereto in the fire limits unless all exterior walls are of protected noncombustible materials, and the roof of such building or structure is covered or constructed of approved fire-resistant materials; provided, that this shall not operate to prohibit the construction of temporary one-story buildings for the use of builders during construction of the fireproof structure; wooden fences not over five feet high; piazzas or balconies not exceeding ten feet in width or extending more than three feet above the second-story floorbeams; bay windows, cornices when covered with incombustible material; private garages not to exceed space for two automobiles; or during construction for workmen engaged thereon, temporary buildings not exceeding one hundred fifty feet in area nor eight feet in height.
15.16.030 Repairs.
It is unlawful to repair any existing frame building within the fire limits after the same shall be damaged by any cause to fifty percent of its value, unless such building is made to conform to the provisions of RMC 15.16.020.
15.16.040 Permit.
No person, firm or corporation shall construct or alter any building or structure within the fire limits area unless a permit is issued for the construction or authorization. The applicant shall submit with the permit application detailed plans and specifications, in duplicate, under the seal or certificate of an architect.
