FIREARMS DISPOSAL

9.16.010 Firearms disposal.
(1) Such firearms and related equipment may be retained by the sheriff’s office for the use of the sheriff’s office as the office has the need; or
(2) Such firearms and related equipment may be traded to federally licensed firearms dealers for firearms and/or other equipment needs of the sheriff’s office; or
(3) Such firearms and related equipment may be traded to other law enforcement agency for other equipment of approximately equal or greater value;
(4) Such firearms and related equipment may be sold by highest bid to federally licensed firearms dealers and the proceeds shall go to the sheriff’s office for funding equipment needs;
(5) The sheriff, in disposing of the firearms and related equipment in the manner provided herein, after said property has been offered at bid sale without sale thereof and deeming the property without value, may destroy the property at his discretion;
(6) All firearms shall be inventoried by the sheriff’s office. Before the sheriff disposes of any firearm or related equipment, all aspects of the sale or trade shall be approved by the county court including value. The sheriff’s office shall keep a record of all such sales or transactions. (Ord. 88, 1993)
